In the year 1999 I decided to buy a lot of magazines ranging from the last editions of that year to the first of the year 2000.

I thought that in the future it would be interesting to read.

I bought a lot of magazines and stacked them in a box.

The World is so crazy right now, I just had to open the box and have a look.

Well, all those twenty magazines or something were not as exciting as I thought, but a few were. They contained contemporary tech ads and predictions of what was about to happen. I took some pictures and then threw the magazines away.

Yeah, I can’t believe it. Those guys used to sell car tyres and rubber boots. Then somehow, they managed to become a huge player in telecom.

Aah, those mastodont screen devices. People used to hit them like pin-ball machines, when some data in it got stuck. (If you never have hit a pin-ball machine or don’t even know what the heck that is, ask someone who remembers the fall of the Berlin Wall. (I guess you’d better google that to find out when it took place)

That picture makes me freak out a bit.

Internet, you see, is like a big room full of wires and bulbs, and when you write a word on the home page of, let’s say AltaVista or WebCrawler, a search engine starts looking for matching words on home pages that have applied to be found on that very search engine. And all this is happening around us. The information is everywhere and nowhere. It’s in cyberspace. You can sit in your apartment and see pictures of what it’s like to stand in some famous building. The World is yours. Can you dig it?

But beware! Internet is a risky place. Never type any important or personal information online. Other people could be able to read it, and you wouldn’t want that to happen, would you? It’s as if total strangers would be able to read your diary.

Two thousand dollars is a good price for a state-of-the-art laptop that can be inserted with both 3½”-floppy disks and CD-ROM/CDRW. And with a 56K V.90 modem. Yeah.

Once you gone 56K, you’ll never go back to 28K.
